Thank you for your interest in RDC Clinical’s new study, into a natural cow milk extract commonly consumed for support in the fight against microbial infections, iron deficiency, immune, digestive and anti-inflammatory issues. The study product is a delayed release formulation designed to ensure the active ingredients reach the small intestine, and therefore may benefit the relief of symptoms caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

If you’re over 18, currently experiencing regular abdominal pain , constipation or diarrhea and otherwise healthy, you could help with this study and learn valuable information about your stomach condition and your lifestyle. Once enrolled you’ll be asked to attend our clinic in Newstead, Brisbane, for an initial interview, where you’ll complete lifestyle questionnaires, have blood analysis and be given the study product to take in capsule form twice daily for 8 weeks. Follow up tests take place at the clinic at week 4 and week 8.

You will be one of 120 study participants divided into three groups of 40. Two groups will take the active study product, one group will take a placebo (a harmless, inactive substance) so there is a 66% chance you will receive active study product.

About the product you’ll help test… a natural cow milk extract.

Lactoferrin is a natural substance derived from cow milk, which is consumed in foods and complementary medicines for protection against microbial infections, maintaining healthy iron levels and supporting immune, digestive and anti-inflammatory function. The study product is a formulation of lactoferrin which is microencapsulated in calcium alginate, to delay release of the substance until it reaches the small intestine… this means there may be benefit to the relief of symptoms caused by Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).

About the study you’ll take part in… stomach health monitoring.

 

If you’d like to help with this study, we’ll need your assistance over an 8 week period, during which you’ll be asked to take the study product in capsule form twice a day, and attend our clinic in Newstead, Brisbane, a total of 3 times for interviews, lifestyle questionnaires and blood analysis. 

STUDY SCHEDULE FOLLOWING SCREENING & ENROLMENT PROCESS:

Day 1 – Commencement

  • Information session
  • Lifestyle questionnaires
  • Blood analysis for glucose, iron & inflammatory markers.
  • Given study product in capsule form, to take twice daily for 8 weeks. 
  • Total visit duration: 30-60 minutes at the study site.

    Day 28 (week 4) – Update

    • Progress interview
    • Lifestyle questionnaires
    • Blood analysis for glucose, iron & inflammatory markers.
    • Total visit duration: 30-60 minutes at the study site.

      Day 56 (week 8) – Final

      • Final interview
      • Lifestyle questionnaires
      • Blood analysis for glucose, iron & inflammatory markers.
      • Total visit duration: 30-60 minutes at the study site.

        Are you…

        • A male or female, aged over 18?
        • Currently experiencing symptoms related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), such as regular abdominal pain or problems with your poo such as constipation or diarrhea, with those symptoms occurring at least one day a week over the last three months?
        • A non-smoker?
        • Able to attend our clinic in Newstead, Brisbane, a total of 3 times over an 8 week period?

        This RDC Clinical study has been approved by The University of Queensland Human Research Ethics Committee under Approval Number: XXXXXXXX. The study is also registered on the Australian and New Zealand Clinical Trial Registry under Registration Number:  XXXXXXXX.

        Trained Trial Co-ordinators will supervise your progress throughout the study. Your results in the study will be made fully available to you. Any of your personal information collected during the study will be kept in the strictest confidence and your rights as a participant are fully reserved. 

        About the location of the study...you'll attend clinic appointments

        Our clinic is located in Doggett Street, Newstead, Brisbane.

        We are walking distance from the Commercial Road Ferry Terminal & local buses, and a quick 10 minute walk from Bowen Hills train station. We also have onsite visitor parking available.
